Fostering recovery through metaverse business modelling

For now, the Metaverse is not a unified phenomenon, but a loose collection of devices, digital environments, and related technologies. Some users experience Decentraland (where, earlier this year, parcels of digital land were going for the cryptocurrency equivalent of hundreds of thousands of dollars) in VR, but most simply choose to use the 2-D interface of their tablet or smart phone. There will come a time, however, when all these individual platforms will merge to form the Metaverse. No one can say with precision how long it will take for these pieces to fall into place or how big the economic opportunity could be. It won’t be long before major brands catch on to the possibilities of taking things a step further. While commerce in the Metaverse at the early stages is likely to focus on virtual advertising for physical goods (a glorified extension of the internet, in other words), the next stage will be a shift to advertising for and selling virtual ones.
The workshop aims to train a new generation of creative, entrepreneurial, and innovative early-stage researchers, able to face current and future challenges in organizations. It also aims to convert knowledge and ideas into products and services for economic and social benefit.
This event will develop research opportunities for the doctoral students of the HERMES network, extending the traditional academic research training setting, incorporating elements of digitalization and equipping researchers with the right combination of research-related and transferable competences. It will provide enhanced career perspectives in both the academic and non-academic sectors through international, interdisciplinary and intersectoral mobility combined with an innovation-oriented mind-set.

The doctoral workshop will take place in hybrid form. In case of a physical attendance, the accommodation and meals will be covered by the Bucharest University of Economic Studies.
Transportation costs should be covered by your home university. If the transportation costs cannot be covered by the university, please add a motivation letter to your application stating the reasons why the university cannot cover the transportations costs and your request to have this cost covered by Hermes (max 400 €/student).
PhD Students are invited to submit their unpublished work. The official language is English. Extended abstract should not exceed 2,000 words, excluding references.
